Murali Kartik
Murali Kartik was born on September 11, 1976 in Chennai. He is an Indian cricketer who has represented the Indian national cricket team since 2000. He is a specialist slow left arm orthodox bowler known for his loopy trajectory and ability to spin and bounce.
An orthodox left-arm spinner, Kartik, who stands six-feet tall, is a coach’s delight. He bowls with a high-arm action, has the all-important ‘pivot’ in his action and more often than not tosses the ball up in the air. He has the variations needed to excel in the limited overs version too; he can bowl it flat, has the arm ball and can slip in the yorker once in a while.
Be it international, domestic or even county cricket, he has done it all – from holding a place in Team India to playing for Railways for Ranji Trophy to being an important part of English County Cricket. He was part of Middlesex's Twenty20-winning squad in 2008 and, uniquely, the only player in the world to play in the IPL and Stanford 20/20 in the inaugural season.
Considering the many feathers in Kartik’s cap, Ramsbottom Cricket Chairman Mick Everett rightfully said:
"Murali is an orthodox left arm spinner and late order left hand bat. He has an impressive record in First Class cricket in his own country which has led to him currently playing for the National side in both Test and One Day Internationals. He more than fills the void left by Mark Price and I would expect him to take a lot of wickets.”
